How are Medicare Advantage Plans at Risk of Being Used and Abused? — SafeRide Health

Written by SafeRide Health | Feb, 26 , 2020

Medicare Advantage plans will be adding transportation benefits at an unprecedented rate in 2021. A recent study by WellCare showed transportation was one of the Top 3 requested services which makes perfect sense when you learn that fewer and fewer people are driving as they age.

Those aged 65-75 see only 12% not driving, but after 75 the number spikes to 30%, and as the population continues to age the number of seniors who are no longer driving continues to increase.

This need to stay relevant and attractive to new members and retain existing ones is driving a surge in adding transportation for 2021. However, simply copying the program from your local Medicaid NEMT broker is filled with risks and pitfalls that can only be avoided by moving away from the legacy NEMT broker and instead work with a technology-forward NEMT broker.
