Did you know 25% of all missed appointments each year is due to a lack of transportation? Solving this issue is a $37 billion problem weighing on health care each year and it is only 25% of a $150 billion problem associated with these appointment no-shows. Many health plans and care providers have varying forms of a non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) benefit to help people get to and from appointments but they are not leveraging rideshare services like Lyft or Uber as part of their NEMT solution. Depending on the current benefit, broker arrangement, or transportation program in place the cost of sending someone who can be transported via rideshare on a ride other than rideshare is costing 3x, 4x and even 18x more than a typical rideshare fare.
